In this module, we’ll explore the anatomy and physiology of the temporomandibular joint, discuss palpation of the temporomandibular joint, and explain the fascinating properties of the musculature of the craniomandibular system.

Structural changes in the condyles and the fossa or eminentia articularis of the temporomandibular joints have a major impact on the movements of the hinge axis. The visualization of the pathological changes on CT and MRI and the condylographic interpretation of the curves in such situations lead to a coherent and clear diagnosis – including the dynamic effects of these joint pathologies on the occlusal functions of chewing, bruxing and speaking.

In this module we examine the functional anatomy of the cranio-mandibular system (CMS), present the clinical diagnosis of the temporomandibular joints including the final feeling of the temporomandibular joints.
